Description
Phlomis russeliana, or Jerusalem Sage, is a hardy perennial known for its bold, silvery-green leaves and tall flower spikes. The soft, textured leaves form a low, dense rosette that adds interest and contrast to garden beds. In late spring to midsummer, tall stems with tiered clusters of pale yellow, hooded flowers rise above the foliage, creating a striking display.
Native to the eastern Mediterranean, this drought-tolerant plant thrives in sunny, well-drained spots and can grow in many soil types, including rocky or poor soils. When in bloom, it reaches 90-120 cm tall, making it a great choice for adding height and structure to garden borders, gravel gardens, or dry landscapes. The seed heads stay through fall and winter, adding year-round visual interest.
Phlomis russeliana is easy to care for and attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies, making it a great option for gardens that support wildlife. Its spreading leaves help suppress weeds, making it both beautiful and practical for low-maintenance landscapes.
