Description
Acanthus hungaricus 'White Lips,' or White Lips Hungarian Bear’s Breech, is a beautiful and dramatic plant for any garden. This tough perennial grows into a clump of deep green, lobed leaves that form a striking base. In early summer, tall flower spikes appear with white, lip-shaped flowers and purple tops. These spikes can grow up to 1 meter tall, adding height and interest to your garden until mid-summer.
Originally from the rocky areas of the Balkans, 'White Lips' does well in rich, well-drained soil. It grows strongly and blooms reliably, making it a great choice for borders or as a feature plant in cottage gardens. Its semi-evergreen leaves also keep the garden interesting even during cooler months. Whether you prefer a relaxed or formal garden style, this plant adds structure, charm, and a touch of wild beauty.
To plant Acanthus 'White Lips,' mix compost into the soil for extra nutrients. Water it well during hot, dry weather to keep it healthy and avoid powdery mildew. Over time, the plant may form thick clumps. To prevent overcrowding, divide these clumps every few years in early spring. With this simple care, 'White Lips' will stay healthy and vibrant for many seasons.
